Goodbye Laptop

I lost my first laptop last week. It overheated in my bag (!) which burned its motherboard. Leonid offered to have it repaired but since the model has been phased out, no replacement motherboard can be bought from its local supplier. So I decided to make use of the parts. The DVD writer goes to Leonid. The hard disk I'll use as a portable drive.

The memory card was missing and was probably taken by the technician in Robinson's DasmariƱas!

I still have to think about what to do with the rest. Any suggestions?

My Posts Are Not Moving

My posts are not moving because I have not been posting blogs lately.

The Flu has arrived in the Philippines. So, ingat!

Let's eat more fruit, take vitamins, exercise and if possible avoid crowds.

Meanwhile, enjoy this:

Facebook (and Friendster too!) Etiquette

I saw this video in Time magazine's article: How Not to Be Hated on Facebook: 10 More Rules.

Graduation

What lies ahead for them?

---------

Frisking during the processional; maybe due to this incident.

Rosas Pandan

I first heard of the tune through this (NSFW) from an officemate:

Yesterday, while browsing Philippine Madrigal Singers (Madz) videos in Youtube, I chanced upon these videos. I didn't know that this arrangement was all over. The song is about Rosas Pandan whose beauty is drool-worthy.

Thesis Defense

This entry is post-dated, just like a check. Right now, I'm having my final thesis defense with the faculty of the graduate school and external evaluators. I'm totally new to this kind of defense, since in undergrad, it's just the advisory committee.

I'm done with the advisory committee defense last week. They recommended some revisions which I have done over night. With the new set, I don't think I can do the revisions with just one sitting. Note that they have no info, whatsoever, about my thesis. They'll just listen in this morning.

Good luck to me!

UPDATE: It went well. Graduation is Monday after Good Friday.

Doggy Bank

Instead of a piggy bank, I have a doggy bank named Bantay. Here are his photos---gloomy, proud and sad rolled into one.

Positivity

In which school in the world could you leave a laptop for 3 days and find it where you left it?

I was stressed to the max and was irritated (don't ask why) last Thursday that I forgot my laptop after testing it with a projector. This was in preparation for a presentation I will be having next week. It's the first incident.

The second was my key. I left it inside my locker in the office. It's a big hassle since I have to ask someone to have my door unlocked and I have to commute to and from work.

Without my computer for several days turned out to be great! I was able to read and abstract many documents. I was able to digest what I was reading better than when it was in MS Word. I was even able to edit several docs and was able to comprehend better.

I recently noticed that when I'm too burdened with (negative) thoughts, I tend to be unfocused. It's usually followed by misplaced items, wrong turns, accidents, etc. Which I don't want.

Probably, I should inject more positivity to my head.

Editing Stage

Yup, I'm still stuck in the editing stage. It was even harder to edit because there is no style guide to follow. I've read American Psychologist's Association Style Guide, but I don't think that this one is what they're using at the school I'm in.

At this stage I'm appreciating the "style" feature of MS Word. It's neat because in my case, every part of the paper is tagged accordingly. So, if I need to change for example all the headers (the section titles in my paper), I just need to do it once and it's automatically applied to all.

This was also very helpful in creating the table of contents, list of table, list of figures, etc. For example: I tagged all the figure titles and descriptions with "Figure". To create the list of figures, I didn't need to type again all the infos, instead: Insert>Reference>Index and Tables>Table of Figures.

My defense was scheduled last week, was postponed and I don't know the schedule now. It appears that they're not in a hurry after all. I heard that the other students thatare about to graduate are still in the data collection and writing stage.
We'll see what happens next week.

PPS. Try the Google translator on the second column. It can translate from English to Filipino, although per word and not by context.
